Ginger Malva Pudding Recipe

Ginger Malva Pudding Recipe

Malva pudding is a traditional South African dessert, and this is a unique take on the dish with ginger. The dish contains a warm sponge cake and a rich, buttery white sauce made of milk and butter.

The sauce closely resembles the early stages of butterscotch before the sugar caramelization sets in. This sauce seeps into the sponge, making it moist, soft, and delicious. The sweetness of this dish accompanies the strong flavour of ginger powder that gives it a delightful aroma and adds another layer of flavour.

If you’re going to host a dinner for your family or friends, this dish makes a perfect end to the buffet. Try this recipe and receive tons of compliments.

For pudding

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon apricot jam
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

For sauce

  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup water

Step 1:

Preheat your oven to 400° F (200° C). Take a 9-inch pan and grease it with some butter.

Step 2:

Mix 1 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon butter, and egg in a large bowl. Whisk these ingredients until they become creamy. Beat in apricot jam, vinegar, ginger powder, and baking soda. Add 1 cup milk and flour, and beat until the batter becomes smooth.

Step 3:

Pour the batter into a greased pan. And bake in the oven for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes clean.

Step 4:

When the 5 minutes are left for the pudding to bake, put a saucepan on medium heat and pour 1 cup milk, ½ cup butter, ½ cup sugar and water. Bring the sauce to a boil and keep stirring until it becomes smooth. Take out the pudding from the oven, pour this hot sauce over it and let it sink into the pudding.

This is a great holiday dish you could try to impress your friends and family over dinner. Ginger powder is a unique take on this classic dish and gives it a delightful aroma and flavour.
